Stanford offer was "surreal" for 2022 safety Devin Moore

Devin Moore is emerging as one of the most talented safeties in the 2022 class. Stanford offered him Aug. 24 and the Cardinal staff is competing with Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan and others for the 6-2 defensive back with a 4.08 GPA at Naples High.

Moore can play any position in the defensive backfield and last year he had 57 tackles (three for loss), three interceptions, four pass deflections and one fumble recovery. He scored touchdowns on two of his interception returns.

He was offered by David Shaw at the beginning of a virtual visit.

“It was a surreal experience," he said in a phone call with Cardinal Sports Report. "Honestly, it’s just a place where you can get both: great coaching, obviously great academics, being around great people who are just like you. They talked about how California is a long way from Florida, but once you get there you meet people from all over, and you see that they’re just like you, and you have a great time.”

Moore found the visit to be very informative and liked that he was given a number of videos to choose from (he was told to select up to four) and also spoke with defensive backs coach Duane Akina.

“He’s a very smart guy and he cares about more than just football. He talked about a couple of experiences and stories that proved he cared more than just about football. He told me that Stanford is a great place and that you get the full package there.”

Moore is looking for a school that can offer a "great degree", an opportunity for early playing time and coaches who can prepare him for the NFL.

He described his timeline for picking his top schools in an interview with CaneSport in July:

“I plan to do that later in the year when I see who recruits me the hardest and a place I can see myself fitting in. And I also need to take visits when this whole (coronavirus) ordeal is over so I can find the right place for me.”
