Stanford has the attention of James Pogorelc after offer

Stanford offered Virginia native James Pogorelc Sunday after an evaluation process by Kevin Carberry that started more than a month ago.

Since the start of the high school football season across the country Carberry has been looking at multiple candidates for the next 2020 offer and Pogorelc is intriguing because he reportedly gained 60 pounds in the past year. He is getting major offers now because his recent film shows he's a high-level prospect.

He also reports a 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT and 1470 SAT that he probably just took for fun. In other words, Pogorelc would have a legitimate shot to be admitted to Stanford without any student-athlete boost.

As is always the case with such an academically driven young man, an offer from Stanford was well received.

"I was extremely excited," he messaged Cardinal Sports Report. "I’ve always loved Stanford and that offer meant a lot. I called Coach Carberry and he told me. It definitely has an impact on my recruiting and Stanford will be a high priority for me moving forward.

"I think Stanford is the best school in the country and it also offers an opportunity to play in the Pac-12. I was a little surprised when he offered but we had been talking for over a month and I felt like I was getting closer."

Pogorelc is not concerned about attending a college far from home and has talked to Stanford about scheduling a visit for a game later this season. Tennessee, Stanford, Virginia, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and ASU have all offered this month, which has been overwhelming for Pogorelc. As a result he plans to sign in February if only to give him the time he needs to see what his new choices have to offer.
