Linebackers Spencer Jorgensen and Thunder Keck were awarded scholarships Saturday largely due to their impact on special teams. They spoke with media Wednesday during a Zoom press conference about it was like to get surprised with the news at the end of practice Tuesday night and the work they put in to make it happen.

Jorgensen described how Saturday night played out from his perspective and his take on the culture of the team. Also noteworthy is that Jorgensen has moved to ILB from safety.

Jorgensen was one of many freshmen who answered the call last season on special teams. He shared a bit about what it was like when he found out he was going to play last season and why he felt prepared.

Redshirt junior Thunder Keck has impressed observers with his speed and athleticism since he got to Stanford. Cardinal Sports Report first heard about him just a couple weeks into his first training camp. He just didn't know what the heck he was doing. At all.

Now he's much more confident now. He provided some good perspective about how he thought about getting a scholarship, and the message he delivered to current walk-ons after he got a scholarship Saturday.
