Isibor interested in Stanford

Stanford hosted one of Arizona's top prospects last month for their all-positions camp. Three-star outside linebacker/defensive end Odua Isibor made his first trip to The Farm in mid-June, and he was impressed with what he saw.

"It was exhilarating," Isibor said. "I got to see all of the history that Stanford presents to you with its old buildings and then also with their championships and the players that have come out of there. I got to practice - I hadn't practiced since the season, so it was a little odd and kind of weird for me, but I got used to it pretty fast and it was a fun practice."

Also out of the norm for Isibor at camp was his position. He plays defensive end at the high school level but projects as an outside linebacker in Stanford's defense, and that's where he was positioned at camp. He worked closely with his potential future position coach, Lance Anderson, to refine his technique.

"I really didn't know much about playing sort of a linebacker position," Isibor said. "Obviously I'm a defensive end. (Anderson) really did teach me the basics and exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, and I'm a lot better at it now."

Isibor started hearing from Stanford last football season. His primary contact on Stanford's staff is Anderson.

"(We discuss) what type of positions I would be playing," Isibor said. "(Also), what I need to do in order to be prepared academically. What I need to do during this school year to get into Stanford to begin with."

The Cardinal has yet to extent Isibor a scholarship, but the program has expressed interest.

"I feel like they really do want me, it's just that the admissions takes a lot longer and I need to apply and work on (my academic situation) at school," Isibor said. "My grades are fine, but I just need to keep them up."

Isibor would strong consider a scholarship offer from the Cardinal.

"They're definitely one of the top schools on my list right now," Isibor said.

"Really, whether I play football at Stanford or not, to go to Stanford, it's kind of like a recipe for success. All of the great men and women of our country and other countries go to Stanford, or went to Stanford. It's kind of a place that fulfills every academic, athletic or any other need a person might have wanting to succeed in life."

Stanford is joined by schools like Arizona, Texas A&M, USC and Oregon, among others, on his top list. Those programs have offered.

He intends to take his visits at the beginning of the school year with a decision coming shortly thereafter, possibly in the September/October vicinity.
