Stanford routed Washington 83-50 Sunday afternoon at their temporary home arena in Las Vegas. Haley Jones was unstoppable and scored 29 points while missing only one shot.
The Cardinal are working hard to get their feet under them after moving into a hotel in Las Vegas and only practicing once this week (Thursday) before playing UNLV and former assistant/now head coach of the Runnin Rebels Lindy La Rocque. Jones has not needed a warm-up period and is playing the game beautifully and has set new career highs in scoring in consecutive games — 25 versus UNLV and now 29 Sunday. She has missed six shots combined in those two games, grabbed 20 rebounds and had 10 assists.
Jones and Stanford imposed their will inside against Washington and scored 42 points in the paint and had 58 rebounds. They had plenty of opportunities to go after missed shots because several Cardinal are struggling to find their jump shot. There are multiple reasons why players may not have a good feel for their shots right now because of the irregular practice schedule and new gym.
Kiana Williams is searching for the thermostat to turn the heat up on her shot. It's ice cold at the moment. She made only 1-of-12 FGA Sunday and attempted only five Friday.
Hannah Jump and Fran Belibi each scored 12 points. Jana Van Gytenbeek had five assists and looks very comfortable in her limited minutes so far running the court and distributing the ball.
