Fehoko's busy recruiting stretch

The last few weeks has been quite eventful for 2016 Stanford wide receiver commit Simi Fehoko on the recruiting trail.

First, on Dec. 31, he found out that he had earned admission into Stanford University.

"It was New Year's Eve," Fehoko said. "I wasn't expecting it at all because they had a game to get ready for. It was really surprising. When my phone rang I just woke up from a nap and I saw it was David Shaw. I was like oh, I have to wake up to answer this. He said, 'I know you've been waiting for a while but you've been officially admitted to Stanford.'My parents were kind of near me, so they just started screaming in the background and I was just excited. I just wasn't expecting it. I was just glad this huge weight was lifted off my chest."

A few days later, Fehoko flew to San Antonio, where he participated in the prestigious U.S. Army All American bowl. Fehoko, who was part of a strong Stanford contingent at the event, caught a touchdown pass in the game and impressed throughout the week of practice.

"Obviously it was a great experience for me to go down there" Fehoko said. "Not only to hang out with all the top guys in the nation, but to also compete with them. (I was able to) learn something that they do and take it to the next level wherever I end up. I think competing with them was just a great opportunity for me to get that top cornerback in the nation, to go against him and really try to showcase my talent."

Then, after returning home for a few days, Fehoko made a return trip to The Farm to partake in Stanford's big recruiting weekend.

"It was awesome," Fehoko said. "We got most of all of the commits down there. It was just great bonding with all of those guys who I am going to potentially end up with in two years. I think it was just a great experience."

"Most of the stuff was basically the same as some of the Junior Days. I talked to the professors and stuff like that. But still, talking to the professors, by now we all know each other, so it's just great. And knowing that those are the teachers I'm going to be taking classes from is obviously huge for me. And one of the major things that we really liked as recruits, not even recruits, but everyone - I think it was cool that we got to meet Condoleeza Rice and hear what she had to say. It was just a cool opportunity to hang out with all the guys. It was just awesome."

Fehoko was hosted on the visit by freshman receiver J.J Arcega-Whiteside. He spent time with numerous recruits, including K.J. Costello, Curtis Robinson, Clark Yarbrough, Malik Antoine and Nate Herbig.

"Basically we were always with each other," Fehoko said. "Even when we were with our player hosts, we ended up being together at the end of the night, eventually. It was just awesome."

The four-star standout also had time to catch up with the Cardinal coaches, who reiterated that they are looking forward to coaching Fehoko in future seasons.

"They're just excited to get me back in two years and work with me and work me into the program," Fehoko said. "So I think they're all just excited on me being admitted. I think it was just all-around excitement for everything."

Cardinal defensive coordinator Lance Anderson paid Fehoko a visit at Brighton High School a few days after the visit.

"Lance just came by and said, really, you're admitted on you attaining the things that you've been admitted for," Fehoko said. "So, getting A's and B's in all of my classes throughout the rest of the (trimesters). Although I've been admitted I can't drop off at all or anything. So I think that was the main thing that really he just wanted to come by, check to see how the classes were going, how I'm doing. And he was basically just telling me he was excited."

Fehoko also expects Anderson to make another visit this coming week.

Although Fehoko has been admitted to Stanford and has been committed to the program since the summer, other schools have continued their pursuit. Fehoko does plan to take an official visit to BYU next weekend.

"Something I'm really looking to gain (on my trip to BYU) is reassurance with Stanford and why I chose Stanford and the confidence in my decision," Fehoko said. "So I think that's really what I'm looking forward to gaining on my trip there."

In general, despite the upcoming visit to Provo, Fehoko said that he remains strong in his commitment to the Cardinal.

"I'm solid on my commitment and I think it's a big deal to even be admitted or go to Stanford at all," Fehoko said. "I really think it's about the bigger picture. I need something that's going to give me much more opportunities and open more doors for me in the future to succeed in life in general, not only in the football aspect but in life. So I think Stanford overall has that one thing that I'm looking for and I think it will give me much more opportunities in the long run."

Fehoko plans to serve a two-year LDS church mission prior to the start of his Stanford career. He will turn in his mission papers on February 14th and anticipates receiving his mission call about two weeks later.
