Big Visit report: Trevor Speights

2016 Texas running back Trevor Speights took his second trip to Stanford - and his first as a Cardinal commit - to The Farm for the Cardinal's Big Visit over the weekend.

"It definitely exceeded my expectations," Speights said. "I'm extremely blessed to be in the place that I am with being able to attend Stanford University, and I can't wait to get started there."

Speight's favorite part of the trip was the time he spent getting to know the people he'll be surrounded by for the next four years.

"Definitely hanging out with the players and getting to know the whole coaching staff," Speights said. "Getting to hang out with all of the recruits was pretty cool."

The McAllen Memorial High School star spent time with a number of players and recruits during his time on campus, including both of the Cardinal's current freshmen running backs.

"I hung out with a lot of people," Speights said. "I was hanging out with Bryce Love and Cameron Scarlet. My comfort level was extremely (high). I felt like I was at home."

The record-setting Texas native also had plenty of time to get to know his future position coach, Lance Taylor, and other members of the Cardinal coaching staff.

"I did hang out with Coach Taylor a lot," Speights said. "We just pretty much talked football, talked the offense. We were just discussing the protections, like the transfer from high school to college, what I what I have to expect."

Depending on how well Speights makes that transition, he could be in a position to contend for playing time next year.

"From what I understand each player is given the opportunity to play," Speights said. "You have to go earn it. Day one that's what I'm going to strive for and try to get in the running back rotation."

In addition to learning about the football side, Speights was able to gather information about other parts of Stanford.

"My biggest takeaway (from the trip) was definitely getting to meet all the professors and getting to meet students," he said. "They're extremely supportive of student-athletes and most schools aren't like that, so I'm excited."

Shortly after returning home from his trip, Speights received a decision from Stanford's admissions office.

The three-star standout expects to sign with the Cardinal next month.
