Stanford's men's basketball coaches will welcome a visitor from Maryland this weekend, a Rivals top-150 point guard named Brendan Adams who was a relative unknown when the Cardinal offered in February.
Adams is a 2018 prospect at Calvert Hall in Baltimore and before he even had a Rivals profile the Cardinal coaches appeared to love what they saw on the court. His name has become more familiar to people who follow recruiting, and some of that may have to do with how his older brother Jaylen went unnoticed by many college coaches.
Jaylen averaged 10 points a game in 20016-2017 as a freshman at St. Bonaventure.
Brendan told Rivals basketball analyst Corey Evans: "“They all missed out on him so they’re going to come and see me. I kind of have size already unlike him but they don’t want to miss out again like they did with him.”
With more options at this stage than his brother, Brendan told Evans he was leaning toward making a spring decision. He also said that, in addition to Stanford, he is in contact the most consistently with St. Joseph, Cincinnati, Florida and Kansas State.
Adams told Cardinal Sports Report that he talks often with Stanford assistant coach Adam Cohen -- the program's recruiting coordinator -- and has had several conversations with head coach Jerod Haase.
The fact that Stanford is on the West Coast doesn't bother Adams. In fact, he said about distance from home: "That matters the least to me probably. Most important to me is the fit."
Adams has been to California before, but never to Stanford. His top priority is to get a "feel for the campus and the community" during his time on The Farm.
And what Stanford offers off the court is a significant reason for why he is interested in the basketball program.
"I've been in a challenging academic environment my whole life," he said. "My parents made sure of that as a child. So a school like Stanford doesn't really intimidate me and I see it as something good."
