Head still strong with Stanford

Georgia safety Stuart Head committed to Stanford on Christmas Eve, 2015, and has remained solid with the Cardinal since.

That hasn't stopped other programs from pursuing him, however. He's added offers from Notre Dame and Louisville in the last few months to an already lengthy list of options.

"I'm definitely very solid on my Stanford commitment," Head said. "It's definitely cool to get other offers. I'm very appreciative, still. But I'm very solid on Stanford, still."

Head made his verbal pledge to the Cardinal following his first visit to campus, to watch Stanford's dramatic victory over Notre Dame in late November. He made his college decision less than a month later.

"Definitely my experience when I was out there on my visit (played a role in my decision)," Head said. "I really felt at home. It was definitely a place I could see myself being through my college experience. It's definitely a place where I can grow as a person, as a football player and as a student around other people just like me. It really provides the best opportunity for me on and off the field and for my future."

Head informed Stanford head coach David Shaw of his decision.

"Christmas Eve I called all the other coaches from the other schools out of respect and told them I was going to Stanford," Head said. "Finally I got to make my call to Coach Shaw and it was probably the most exciting call I could make. And then I called Coach Anderson. They were all very excited. Coach Shaw really liked to have me on board and now I have to build this class with some of the other guys that are no board, now, too."

The Etowah High School standout has already started that process. He's recruiting his friend, 2017 Stanford running back target Trey Sermon, and was in touch with Davis Mills prior to Mills' commitment.

Head has also gotten to know several 2017 recruits who have already committed.

"I've gotten close with some of the other commits - Sione Lund and Tucker Fisk, who were actually both on my visit for the Notre Dame game in this fall," Head said. "It's kind of cool that we're all committed now. It's cool getting to know the other guys and seeing what our class could be."

Head also maintains a strong rapport with his future coaches. The Cardinal continues to recruit him for the safety position.

"I keep in good contact with all of the coaches, always," Head said. "I update them with my track. I'm in track season right now, so they're always interested in what I'm doing, how I'm spending my time with everything. I keep them updated with my grades because that's a big priority for Stanford. I just tell them how I'm doing. They're always looking out for me. I have a good relationship with all of the defensive staff and Coach Shaw, too."

Head is currently determining when he will make a return trip to The Farm - this summer is a possibility. He has discussed Stanford's admissions process with the Cardinal and expects to receive a copy of the application sometime in the near future.

"I seem to be on track (for admissions) and should work on my application soon," Head said.

With his commitment behind him and the admissions process underway, Head is eager to continue to develop his connection to the Cardinal program in months leading up to 2017 Signing Day.

"I definitely want to build my relationship with all of the coaches and other teammates that are already at Stanford University," Head said. "Maybe take in some advice for when I actually get out there. I definitely want to build the recruiting class (so that I'm) surrounded with guys just like me - for us to be successful when my class gets out there is very important. And I definitely just want to learn more about what Stanford can offer me in the future."
