Stanford University can make an impression. There were several first-time visitors on The Farm for Saturday’s game against Arizona State, including 2018 edge rusher Caleb Kelly.

“If I had any expectations for the visit all of them were blown away when I got there and experienced everything first-hand,” he messaged to Cardinal Sports Report.

Kelly plays all over the front seven for Hapeville Charter in College Park, Georgia. Stanford offered him a scholarship June 26 after scouting him during the spring and summer. What Stanford saw is who his defensive coordinator Kevin Pope describes as a tireless worker who is asked to contend head to head with lineman considerably heavier than Kelly’s listed 210 pounds.

Stanford became a strong favorite as soon as they offered the defender who also is a black belt in karate, which he has studied since he was four. It was just a matter time to get the Georgian with varied interests to Stanford for a visit.

“One of the highlights of my visit was definitely seeing the campus and how beautiful it is,” he said. “On Friday I toured the campus and had a few academic and athletic meetings and the game experience was phenomenal, especially with the win!”

During his visit he was able to spend time with fellow 2018 defensive offers Kendall Williamson (Snellville, Georgia) and Thomas Booker (Baltimore).

“I enjoyed getting the opportunity to interact with fellow players in my class,” Kelly said. “We got along almost instantaneously and we're still keeping in touch.”
