Former Air Force quarterback Isaiah Sanders is joining the Cardinal as a graduate transfer. Stanford announced the addition of Sanders Wednesday and he has been accepted into the Management Science and Engineering Masters program.

Sanders started six games over the course of three seasons for the Falcons and appeared in a total of 16 games. He scored 13 touchdowns (nine rushing, four passing) and had 1,709 total yards (953 passing, 756 rushing) in Air Force's triple-option offense.

“Stanford has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and I’m blessed and honored to join the elite scholars, athletes and world-changers that attend this amazing institution,” Sanders said in a press release from Stanford. “I believe Stanford is one of the best places to cultivate and guide my passions for serving my communities and giving back to the people around me.”

Sanders will compete with Jack West, Tanner McKee and walk-on Dylan Plautz to back up Davis Mills next season.

The No. 2 spot is expected to be wide open in training camp after West could not grab hold of that spot last season. Plautz has shown in practices he's made progress and McKee will probably need time to get back up to speed after serving almost two years in Brazil on an LDS mission.

That means Sanders should have a real chance to create a role for himself, either as a true No. 2 quarterback or in a package of plays to take advantage of his running ability.

Sanders started five games in 2018 and in a 48-38 loss to No. 25 Boise State he rushed 28 times for 97 yards and a touchdown. He completed 10-of-15 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns as well.

According to his Air Force bio: Sanders is the vice president of Undivided, a non-profit focused on strengthening communities and helping community members create positive change in their spheres of influence. He also reportedly wants to coach high school football someday.
