Texas guard sets Stanford visit

Stanford is looking for help at the guard position in its 2017 recruiting class, and Texas guard Jase Febres is a candidate to fill that need. The Cardinal started recruiting Febres shortly before his breakout performance at the Adidas Gauntlet in Spartanburg, South Carolina in early July.

"I've talked to every coach so far - they've all made a point to introduce themselves and get to know me," Febres said. "(I've talked to) Cohen, Coach Haase, Pruitt, Wilburn, all of them. They really made it a point to introduce themselves and talk to me about... how they want me to fit into the program and how they feel like I'll be a good part of it and will be able to play early and start and make a big impact on the team."

Stanford extended Febres a scholarship offer in late July.

"It meant a lot, because Stanford is a very, very prestigious college," Febres said. "The academic part of the actual school, getting a degree from Stanford is crazy. Being able to go there and do what I love and play basketball is even better."

As such, it's no surprise that Stanford is a program Febres will consider as he continues to navigate the recruiting process.

"They're top five out of my schools," Febres said. "I have a visit set up to them already. I'm going to take a big, big look at Stanford."

Febres' visit to The Farm is set for the weekend of September 17th. The trip will be his first to the school.

"I need to get up there and see if it feels like home," Febres said. "The coaching staff, like I said, is great. I just want to make sure that the campus is a place where I'm going to want be.... where I feel I'm not too far... I already know that Stanford is a great school. Really I just want to go see and visit it, period."

Febres holds offers from numerous programs around the country including Texas, Baylor, Washington and Auburn, among many others. He intends to sign during the early signing period.

He has a visit planned to Houston for early next month and is working on setting one up to Baylor for late September. Febres will be visiting Colorado in the next few days.

The relationship between a program's coaching staff and its players will be a key factor in Febres' choice.

"(I want to) really take time to notice how the actual coaches have relationships with their players," Febres said. "When they do see their players, when they say what's up with them, give them handshakes and stuff, are they genuine or if is it kind of fake? Like when I went up to Texas yesterday, as soon as the kids saw (Texas head coach Shaka Smart), they came up and gave him a handshake and a hug. You really believe them when they said it's a big family out there. Coach Cohen has been telling me that one thing that they are is a family-based program. So I really look at those things, see how they're going to develop me, get me to be a better player. And I don't even have to question the academic part (of the Cardinal program)."
