Stanford offers Virginia LB Mitchell

Stanford extended a rare new scholarship offer last week to one of the nation's top linebacker prospects. The Cardinal, which has yet to crack double digits in 2018 offers extended, made it official with four-star Virginia standout Teradja Mitchell on Friday.

"This offer means a lot to me," Mitchell said. "(It's) one of the most prestigious offers I have received. In my opinion it's one of the hardest to receive a scholarship from."

Mitchell has been in touch with Cardinal inside linebackers coach Peter Hansen, who has expressed his enthusiasm for Mitchell's academic accomplishments.

"I've talked to Coach Hansen," Mitchell said. "His message to be was that my transcript stood out. He likes that I'm a student athlete."

The Rivals250 standout holds offers from power programs across the country in addition to the Cardinal. All of the major conferences are represented on his offer list, which includes schools like Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Georgia.

Mitchell is aware of the Cardinal's reputation on the gridiron and in the classroom.

"I know they're are one of the top academic schools in the country with a great tradition and football program," he said.

Over summer, the Bishop Sullivan High School (Virginia Beach, Virginia) star took trips to the likes of Georgia, Clemson and Florida State. He has not visited The Farm, but that remains a possibility for down the road in Mitchell's process.

"That's something that I wouldn't mind traveling to see before I make my decision," he said.
