Stanford offer has the attention of 2022 tackle

Sierra Canyon's Kenji Swanson is an eye-catching athlete. The 6-7, more than 300-pound rising junior kidnapped opposing defensive linemen last year and seemed to carry them away to wherever he wanted.

Stanford is now one of a growing list of schools that hope to sign him for the 2022 class. The Cardinal offered Friday.

"I was extremely happy (to get the offer)," Swanson said in a message to Cardinal Sports Report. "When I was 12 years old, I attended Stanford’s summer basketball camp. I had the opportunity to spend time on their beautiful campus, stay in the dorms and tour the amazing facilities. Since then, I’ve had interest and understood what a blessing attending Stanford could be."

Swanson is very early in the process of building a relationship with Stanford coaches. His first two calls with offensive line coach Kevin Carberry actually occurred Friday.

Swanson spoke with Carberry earlier that day and then Sierra Canyon head coach Jon Ellinghouse told Swanson to give Carberry another call. Carberry informed him that the staff had watched his film together and decided to offer.

"When I heard this news, I couldn’t hold back my excitement."

Stanford fans are very familiar with Sierra Canyon because of the intense recruitment of basketball star Ziaire Williams that resulted in a historic commitment by the 2020 recruit to Jerod Haase's program. Swanson described Williams as a friend and that he is "very proud of him".

"I’ve learned through the recruiting process that if I focus, stay disciplined and work hard then I will get noticed," Swanson said of how he'll navigate the next two years. "I will prioritize by which school and program feel like the best fit for me to reach my goals and prepare me for life after I graduate.I plan to major in business since I’ve always wanted to become an entrepreneur."
