Stanford MBB lands commitment from 2022 4-star SF Jaylen Thompson

On Wednesday, Stanford men’s basketball landed a commitment from 2022 4-star small forward Jaylen Thompson out of Southern California Academy in Los Angeles, California. Thompson has Bay Area roots, originally hailing from Alameda where he previously attended school at St. Joseph Notre Dame High School. Thompson chose Stanford over Arizona State, USC, San Diego State, and San Jose State. Those were the other schools that rounded out his final list.

Listed at 6’7” and 180 pounds, Thompson has good size for a wing. He handles the ball well, has a nice shooting touch, and can score at all three levels: 3-point, mid-range, and inside. The physical tools to be elite are definitely there and he should be a good two-way player for this Stanford program.

Thompson is ranked 95 overall in the latest Rivals 150 and joins 4-star small forward Ryan Agarwal as the second commit in Stanford’s 2022 class. Together, they’ll add even more depth at the wing position and give Stanford a lot of options out on the perimeter.

We look forward to catching up with Thompson about his decision and learn more about what he’s hoping to bring to Stanford in 2022.
