Press Conference: Shaw updates progress of OL, WR and OLB

Injuries are again affecting Stanford's ability to prepare for a season. Head coach David Shaw expects outside backer Jordan Fox to be full go in practice in a couple weeks — meaning about the start of the season — and when I asked for an update about Andres Fox, Tobe Umerah and Stephen Herron he said that the position group is a bit banged up right now, without offering specifics. There are also some injuries in the secondary, although that wasn't addressed today by Shaw.

On the flip side, Shaw is happy about the progress of the offensive line and that the sophomores are much improved. He also thinks that the wide receiver corps is living up to the high level of expectations everyone in and outside the program has for them.

It's really difficult to get a read on how things are going for the team without public practices, but my sense right now is that it's tough going on several fronts and, in my opinion, the injury situation on defense reinforces the necessity for Davis Mills and the offense to score a lot of points.
