Stanford's first commit in the 2017 class, Utah athlete Sione Lund, made a return trip to The Farm last weekend to participate in the Cardinal's Junior Day. The visit was Lund's third to Stanford.

"It was awesome," Lund said. "I loved it. It just made me realize why I committed there and I came to the realization of what I really want and Stanford has that. It was great to be with the players as well, getting to know them and what they think of the place and the great things that come with it. So it was just a great experience overall."

"Probably watching practice and hanging out with the host that I had over the weekend (were the highlights)."

Lund arrived on campus Friday morning and departed Saturday night. He was hosted by fullback Daniel Marx and enjoyed getting to know some of the Cardinal's current players.

"It was awesome," Lund said. "Right off the bat, it wasn't awkward, there wasn't any tension or anything. They were welcoming and I felt at home because of how they were. And just getting to know the players, it was sweet because they were all open and they were willing to answer anything we had."

In addition to the current players, Lund got to know several of his fellow recruits on the trip.

"I hung out with Bailey and Ryan Johnson, that's my dude now," Lund said. "Me and him got to know each other pretty well."

On Saturday morning, Lund and the other visitors took in Stanford's open scrimmage. He paid particularly close to his future position group.

"I watched the offense, of course," Lund said. "Watched Bryce Love and how strong our running game is. And of course I observed running back drills and individuals and what drills I could see myself potentially doing during the spring."

The visit also strengthened the bond between Lund (and his family) and Cardinal running backs coach Lance Taylor.

"I sat in meetings with Coach Taylor and every time we had the opportunity we would always talk," Lund said. "He and my parents got to know each other pretty well at dinner Friday night, so it was pretty sweet."

"Right now (my conversations with Stanford center around) just requirements that I need to get into school and what they see me doing in the future and the impact and role I would play in the offense," Lund said. "Things like that."

Lund has already devoted significant time to Stanford's admissions process. In addition to transferring high schools to increase the rigor of his courseload, Lund had spent months preparing for Saturday's ACT.

"It's looking good right now," said of Stanford's admissions process. "I've devoted a couple of months now to studying and getting my test scores up. I (took the test again) this Saturday and we'll see how that goes. But with the outcome of the practice tests that I've taken, my scores are looking to be what I need."

All told, the visit reaffirmed Lund's decision to choose Stanford.

"I always leave with something that amazes me about Stanford and the campus and I'm always leaving with something that makes me happy with my decision," Lund said.

"I just left with the impression of like, man, I made a great choice and I'm pretty solid and I'm happy with my decision."

Lund is still in the process of determining if and when he will serve an LDS church mission.

"I thin just a little bit longer then I'll know," Lund said. "I think about it every day and I think I'm looking to get an answer pretty soon here."
