Ah You updates Stanford recruitment

Stanford hosted top Utah safety Chaz Ah You for a Junior Day visit during the spring. The two sides have continued to communicate and build a relationship in the months since.

"My visit down there toward the end of May was actually really good," Ah You said. "I've been staying in contact with Coach Akina and Coach Anderson, just working out all of the little kinks with the admissions process just to make sure I'm set on that. But our relationship has gotten really good with Coach Anderson and Coach Akina. They check up on me all the time. Especially during the school year, too, they always make sure I'm doing the things I need to stay qualified to be admitted into Stanford."

Stanford's coaches emphasize the opportunities the school provides during their conversations.

"They tell me that Stanford isn't just a four-year choice, it's a choice for the rest of my life," Ah You said. "So that's something that obviously drives me a lot. It's hard to say no to setting up your future. That's definitely a big part of it."

Ah You is also focused on bettering his academic profile with an eye on Stanford's admissions process.

"Everything is coming along well," Ah You said. "Everything is improving - my ACT scores are improving. So I think I'll be good."

"I'm still going to try to improve my score, get it up a little bit more. My GPA and everything is fine, it's just my ACT that (is a focus for improvement)."

Stanford is one of numerous contenders in Ah You's recruitment; the Timpview High School star holds offers from many of the nation's top programs. He plans to trim his list to 10 favorites on August 1.

"After my top 10 I'm going to start deciding what schools I want to take officials and unoffcials to," Ah You said. "I think that's really all I have planned left. After that I'll decide my commitment."

The four-star standout said that Stanford has a "very high" chance of hosting him before he makes his decision.

"I'm pretty sure I'll be out there for an official," he said.

"My interest in Stanford is very high. They sit very high on my list. I'm heavily considering them."

Ah You said that he's close with 2017 Cardinal commit Sione Lund. He's also connected with fellow Utah native (and fellow safety) Dallas Lloyd on a few occasions.

There's nothing specifically Ah You is looking to learn about Stanford as he continues down the road with the Cardinal, he said. Rather, he hopes to continue to build his relationship with the program and continue to get a feel for the various aspects of the institution.
