After an offer and virtual visit, Shelton has high level of interest

Stanford offered Drew Shelton Aug. 6 and on Monday night the Pennsylvanian sat in his home and experienced his first "visit" with the Cardinal coaches. Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma and others have also reportedly offered.

Offensive line coach Kevin Carberry had two conversations with Shelton leading up to the offer and they're in the early stages of building a relationship. He also met head coach David Shaw during the virtual visit.

"That was pretty cool," Shelton said of the visit. "They talked about what they do as an offensive, what they believe in as a staff, and I got to talk with Coach Shaw for a little bit. We talked about academics and they had a couple of videos about the campus and with players talking about why they chose Stanford and what it's like being there."

Shelton has also done virtual visits with Notre Dame, Penn State and Rutgers. Along with Stanford, Shelton described those schools as the ones standing out so far because they've impressed him with what the schools and football programs have to offer him.

He also is very much in the information gathering stage of his recruiting process and is taking his time to research each school that is recruiting him.

Typically on an unofficial visit a recruit like Shelton has invaluable conversations with current players. Since visits won't be allowed any time soon, Stanford's solution has been to show recruits videos of current players talking about their experiences at Stanford.

Shelton heard from Drew Dalman and Malik Antoine Monday.

"I thought a lot of the things they had to say were really interesting. They have to room with a non-football player as a freshman. I thought it was interesting to hear what they thought about that."

Shelton also knows what he wants to hear from coaches. It's a priority for him to learn what plans the staff has to develop him and teach him to become a better student-athlete.

He's already off to a strong start. The four star plans to take AP US History next year and so far he appears ready to take on Stanford's academic requirements for its recruits.

Shelton praised two role models in his life for putting him in this position.

"My mom (Sarah) has done a great job. She has made me who I am today and has pushed me to be better at all times. Athletically, my uncle (Chris) comes to all my games and takes notes on everything. He sends them to me after the game because he wants to see me to reach my potential."
