2022 3-star PG Benny Gealer commits to Stanford as a preferred walk-on

On Saturday, Stanford men’s basketball picked up a preferred walk-on commit in 2022 3-star point guard Benny Gealer out of Rolling Hills Prep, in San Pedro, CA. Gealer just got admitted to Stanford and has made his decision final.

Gealer helped Rolling Hills Prep win a Southern Section Division 2AA championship last season, dropping 28 points in their 67-56 win over Los Altos in the championship game. Gealer plays with a lot of passion and fire. He gets after it on both ends of the floor, very active in passing lanes. He has good court vision and does a good job of finding open teammates. At the same time, he has a lot of confidence in his shooting ability and has an ability to knock down threes with a hand in his face. As is evident by his performance against Los Altos, he has the ability to heat up.

It’s always tough to project how a preferred walk-on will do, but at a minimum Gealer will add depth to the point guard position with the possibility of earning some minutes down the line. Guys with his tenacity and grit are always welcomed on a basketball team, pushing their teammates, and making them better in practice. It’ll be fun to see what Gealer brings to Stanford next year and also learn more about his journey and what he thinks he can bring to the program.
