2018 Introduction: Karene Reid

In the 2015 class, defensive coordinator Lance Anderson and Stanford went into Utah to ink one of the Beehive State's top prospects, outside linebacker Gabe Reid. The Cardinal and Anderson could try to strike again in the 2018 class with another of Utah's top recruits, who happens to be Gabe Reid's younger brothers - linebacker Karene Reid.

Reid got to know Anderson when the Cardinal assistant made recruiting trips to see Gabe. That relationship paved the way for Karene to participate in Stanford's camp last month.

"Coach Anderson would come down, do house visits for Gabe," Reid said. 'I always stayed in touch with him that way. So he already knew my name. I went down to the camp. We're big into academics."

Reid enjoyed working with Anderson during the camp.

"I liked it a lot," Reid said. "He's a great coach and I like the way they run things. It went really well for me."

"(Coach Anderson) told me that he loved the way that I move and that the size was not a concern to him, that it will come later, and that he's very interested."

Reid said that he believes the Cardinal like him as an outside linebacker

Though his older brother took numerous trips to The Farm during his recruitment, Karene Reid still has plenty to learn about Stanford. The camp visit actually marked Karene's first time on campus.

"I'm not very familiar (with the program)," Reid said. "That was my first time being out there."

Reid's in-person introduction to Stanford was a positive one.

"I went on the tour after the camp and I was very impressed," he said.

"The area (made a positive impression) and the coaches, they all seemed very committed. They have a lot of balanced athletes on their team with school and sports. That's very attractive to me."

Reid said that he'd like to learn more about the way the Cardinal runs its defense, the program's mindset and some of its coaches he does not currently know as well as he continues to form a relationship wit Stanford.

A few weeks after Reid camped with Stanford, he received his first offer, from BYU. Reid has plenty of family history with the Cougars, who were also contenders in Gabe Reid's recruitment.

"That meant a lot to me, especially growing up here in Provo and having my dad go there," Reid said. 'But getting my first offer, yeah, it was awesome."

An offer from Stanford would also draw significant consideration.

"It would be definitely at the top, Reid said.

"Just the academic part (appeals to me), and I really like the coaches out there."

Reid does not plan to take any more college trips this summer.

The Timpview High School standout is LDS and plans to serve a church mission before the start of his college career.
