Stanford still on top for Dickerson

Rivals 250 jumbo athlete Garrett Dickerson named Stanford his leader over summer, and the Cardinal still have the edge in his recruitment over Michigan and Northwestern.

"When I went out there (for an unofficial visit) I just really felt like I could fit in the most," Dickerson said. "I really felt a connection with the guys. I have a great relationship with the coaches out there, which is definitely very big for me. And the location out there is awesome. It was really just the ultimate package when I went out there and got to visit, so they're on top."

Dickerson has maintained consistent contact with the Cardinal.

"Both of us are into our seasons now," Dickerson said. "They're busy coaching and things like that and I'm busy with my team playing and getting ready for our games. So we have as much contact as we can. I was actually getting ready to call Coach Shaw actually, just touch base with him, see how they're doing. But our contact has been good. I've kept in contact very well with them."

Dickerson mainly stays in touch with his regional recruiter, Cardinal inside linebackers coach David Kotulski, but he also speaks with head coach David Shaw and defensive coordinator Derek Mason on occasion.

What has Stanford's message been to Dickerson?

"(They tell me) still that I'm their guy," Dickerson said. "If Stanford is the place for me whenever I'm ready to make that decision they'll be waiting for me. And just that I still have a spot there no matter what."

Dickerson could be ready to make his college decision sooner than he originally anticipated. After previously expressing a desire to wait until after this season to make a commitment, Dickerson is no longer certain when he'll announce.

"I really don't know," Dickerson said. "I feel like it could really come at any time. I'm just trying to focus on our reason. We're off to a rocky start right now so I'm just trying to get us back on track. I really don't know when it could come."

In addition to working in the classroom and focusing on his senior football season, Dickerson has started the Stanford admissions process.

"I'd probably say I'm about 80 percent done with (the application)," Dickerson said. "I'm just finishing it up, having my teachers help me through it and check over it and make sure my essays are good and things like that. I'm pretty far along with it."

The four-star recruit plans to take an official visit to Stanford after the season.

"I'll most likely take my official out there after the season because that's usually when they're available," Dickerson said. "I only have one bye week and it's right before our biggest game of the season so I don't think I'm going to make any officials that weekend. I'll probably take my official after the season."
