Offensive takes

  • Town and Rypien are two of the best 2015 quarterbacks in the nation, but they were in effect competing with another 2015 quarerback who was not in attendance at Friday Night Lights, Josh Rosen, for a Stanford offer. Town was the better of the two signal callers at camp, and is unquestionably one of the best quarterbacks in the 2015 class, but the guess here is that Rosen will still be Stanford's primary focus moving forward.

  • Two linemen emerged as the best in a crowded offensive line group: 2014 Ross Pierschbacher and 2015 Tristen Hoge. Each is a top-100 caliber prospect in his recruiting class, and Hoge will have a chance to emerge as the best offensive lineman on the West Coast, if not the entire country, in 2015.

  • Nolan Kelleher struggled at times. It's no coincidence that Jesse Burkett was offered the day after Kelleher's camp performance.

  • Daniel Marx looks bigger than he did a year ago and was very fluid going through various drills. He also displayed very good hands in passing drills.

  • Brandon Polk is very undersized but quick and explosive.

    Defensive takeaways

  • The defensive line group wasn't as star-studded as the offensive line, but Texas lineman Mohelika Usalike looked like the best of the bunch. Usalike has several offers and has good size and strength.

  • The three defensive backs had strong days. Terrence Alexander was explosive and bigger than expected. Kirk Tucker has an ideal frame -- expect that the Stanford coaches paid very close attention to his coverage skills. 2015 Frank Buncom is a strong candidate to earn a Stanford offer at some point in his recruitment.

  • Jordan Perez picked up a Stanford offer and committed during camp. While Perez still needs to add size to his frame, his athleticism (he plays receiver in addition to linebacker for his high school team), and strength (he pushed back several offensive lineman in one-on-ones) impressed.
