OL receives visit from AU, talks commitment

The Auburn coaching staff continued their whirlwind trip of the state of Alabama on Thursday, hitting high schools around the Huntsville area.

Cullman High School marked the first stop of the day for the Auburn coaches, home of one of the Tigers' top committed prospects in offensive lineman Spencer Region.

Region committed to Auburn in February and has been a big part of Auburn's efforts on the recruiting trail since, helping the Tigers land commitments from Marietta (Ga.) Pope's Thomas O'Reilly, and Spanish Fort (Ala.) High's Reese Dismukes.

Region has a lot of love for his hometown, and sees the visit by the Auburn coaches as something positive for the community and the people.

"It went real good. I was glad to have something like that in my town," Region said. "You get to see a lot of Auburn fans that you don't normally see around Cullman. When you commit, you expect your recruitment from that school to ease back, but with Auburn it doesn't ease back. If anything, it picks up."

The Auburn commit was entertained by the reaction of his fellow students, especially the Auburn fans, to the Tiger coaches visiting the school.

"It was hilarious," said Region. "Some of the students who were big Auburn fans were really excited. It was a good thing for the school and the city. Everybody had a good time. Everything was great today."

Region says the attention brought to him and his school makes him feel good, and makes him think the hard work he's put in is paying off.

Recently though, rumors have spread that Region may be wavering on his commitment to the Tigers and he addressed those rumors today.

"I'm an Auburn man," he said. "I'm still committed to Auburn. I'm still taking my visits because that's what coach (Gene) Chizik wants me to do. Right now, I'm going about my business, looking at everything, and making sure that Auburn is the fit for me and the place I need to be. That's all there is to that."

Region has plans to camp at Alabama and Auburn in June, but plans on being in Auburn sooner than that.

Auburn's next big recruiting event will be the 'Big Cat' weekend in May, and Region plans to be there.
