Erie duo enjoys Spartan visit
Michigan State played host to two of the top prospects on the recruiting board today in quarterback Damion Terry and athlete Delton Williams of Erie Cathedral Prep High School in Pennsylvania. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the duo and get some details.
The Spartans were the first major program to off the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Terry a scholarship. Since that time schools such as Boston College, Duke and Illinois have followed suit. The visit to East Lansing was Terry's second in the past 2 months. We asked him about the visit and his thought process.
"The visit went real well. The best part was being able to have lunch with Coach Dantonio and get to speak with him. I like Michigan State a lot. I hope to make my decision before my senior year."
Making a decision before his senior year could mean that Terry will wait until later this summer, but he could also pull the trigger in the next few days as well. Terry knows that the Spartans are only going to take 1 quarterback for the class of 2013 and 3 or 4 other high-level prospects are seriously considering Michigan State.
Spending time with Coach Dantonio was a main reason for the visit by Terry. Though he had spoken with him via phone numerous times, this was his first opportunity to sit down with him face to face.
Not long after offering Terry the Spartans made the decision to offer Terry's teammate Williams as an athlete recruit that could project as a safety, outside linebacker or even help on offense. The visit to Michigan State was Williams first time on campus and the Spartans made a strong impression.
"The visit to Michigan State was great, he stated. There is a good chance it could be the place for me, but I still have to think things over."
The thought of playing together is something Terry and Williams have talked about. Michigan State would love to have both players as part of the class, but they are not going to pressure either player into making a decision before they are ready.
"The coaches told us to take our time and do what is right, Williams said. They want us to want to be there. They want us to want to come there not just because it is a nice place, but because it will be our home."
If this dynamic duo ends up deciding to become Spartans you can be sure they will be strong advocates for the program. Terry has already been in contact with several of the current Spartan commitments and being a quarterback he understands that he will be able to help recruit other top recruits to join him.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow-up with both players in the coming weeks. A decision for each player could come sooner rather than later.
