Beamer, Hokies offer QB

The Hokies are one of three scholarships for a mid-Atlantic quarterback. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder claims Virginia Tech put the scholarship on the table long ago.

"I've got offers from Virginia as well as Virginia Tech and West Virginia," Hampton, Va. quarterback David Watford said. "Virginia Tech had offered me, but I just didn't know it.

"I talked to Coach Smith yesterday and he mentioned Virginia Tech had offered. I haven't seen it in paper yet, but Coach Smith has it. I plan to talk to them real soon and I'm going up for their spring game.

"I'm glad to get the offer. I'm just getting more and more offers."

What about the offer from the Mountaineers?

"They offered on Tuesday. I don't really know much about them, but from what I've seen it seems like a really good school," he stated. "I've just got to go see what the coaches are talking about. I don't have a visit set there yet. I've gotta call their coaches and see."

All the colleges recruiting Watford are eyeing him as a quarterback.

At this time, Watford claims no leaders.

"I don't have any favorites right now. I'm just taking it all in."

Watford accounted for over 2,000-yards of offense and 24 touchdowns as a junior last season while earning second team all-district honors.
