July 15, 2013After missing much of his junior season with a wrist injury, Arizona outside linebacker Lane Veach was still largely an unkown prosect on the national scale heading into the summer.
Schools like Stanford liked what they saw of Leach, but wanted to see more.
"With only playing like five games last year, I haven't had that much exposure as of yet," Veach told Cardinal Sports Report last month. "Word of mouth gets out really quick about me, but not based on much of my game play because I only had five games with a broken hand last year."
Stanford's summer camp provided Veach the exposure that he needed. By working with Cardinal outside linebackers coach Lance Anderson and the rest of the Stanford coaches in a structured environment, Veach proved to Stanford that he had the skills required to succeed as an outside linebacker in the Cardinal's defense.
As a result, Veach picked up a Stanford offer before leaving campus.
"After the camp Coach Anderson called me aside and then Coach Shaw, Coach Mason and I met and then they offered me," Veach told Cardinal Sports Report after returning home.
"(Receiving the offer) was really great. There was no negative about the school when I was looking at it. It's really exciting for me and my family."
After considering his options for a few weeks, Veach came to a decision on Monday night, announcing his commitment to the Cardinal on Twitter.
In doing so, Veach became the ninth prospect in the class of 2014 to publically commit to the Cardinal. He was the second recruit to commit on Monday, following Nebraska defensive lineman Harrison Phillips.
Stay tuned to Cardinal Sports Report for complete coverage of Veach's commitment, including an interview with the outside linebacker prospect.
