One of the top tight end prospects in Michigan for the class of 2014 will be Blake Williams of Romeo High School. Williams was in East Lansing past weekend for the Nebraska game. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with him and get the latest details on his recruitment.

Tight end recruiting is always important aspect for Michigan State. The Spartans like to take at least 1 quality tight end in each class. For the class of 2014 the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Williams is one of the prospects the staff is closely evaluating. For his part, Williams has been very proactive in getting out and visiting schools. SpartanMag.com asked him which schools he has visited.

"So far this season I have taken visits to Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Indiana, Iowa, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Cal Berkeley, Ohio, Minnesota and Toledo. I have visits scheduled for Wisconsin, Penn State, Ball State, Miami of Ohio, and Akron."

Williams had an excellent junior season for Romeo High School. He helped lead the Bulldogs into the playoffs with his strong play on both sides of the ball. We asked him about his season statistics and if he camped at Michigan State this past summer.

"On offense I had 17 catches for 218 yards, 29 pancakes blocks and 3 touchdowns," he said. "On defense I had 54 tackles, 52 assists, 7 sacks, 7 deflections, 4 forced fumbles, and a blocked field goal. I attended about 18 camps this summer and all of the coaches wanted me to come out and see a game."

Being from Michigan, Williams is very familiar with Michigan State University and what the school has to offer. We asked him if he has any family connections to Michigan State and what his thoughts are about the Spartan program.

"Yes I have a couple of cousins enrolled at state and my sister may be transferring there after her sophomore year," Williams said. "Michigan State has made themselves a power in the Big Ten the past few years it is a great program. I have been fortunate enough to see two games at Michigan State this season and I met primarily with Coach Salem because he is my recruiting coordinator. I am in the process of finishing my season highlight tape for this year and will meet again with Coach Salem once it is finished and continue on from there."

As with most prospect Williams is still in the early stages of his recruitment. He spoke with us about what he is looking for in a school when it comes to making his college decision.

"The most important thing to me is academics," Williams stated. "I want to go to a college where I can get a great job after my football career. After that I would have to say the coaches are a huge factor. More specifically the strength and conditioning coaches because everywhere I have been they have said that you will be spending more time with them than anyone else for all 4 or 5 years of your college life."

Having spoken with several high school coaches that have had a chance to see Williams play, we can say that he is definitely someone we expect will be playing football at the Division 1 level before all is said and done.
